  26. Setup
  27. =====
  28. Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive and wait about 10 seconds.
  29. The setup will start automatically.
  30. If the setup process does not start automatically follow the 
  31. instructions below:
  32.  1. Click once on 'Start'
  33.  2. Choose 'Run'.
  34.     In the command line type 'D:\Setup.exe'.
  35.     (where D is your Cd-Rom drive letter).
  36.  3. click 'OK'.
  37.     follow the instructions on the screen.
  38.  
  39.     The setup program will create CET group with 4 icons:
  40.      A. The program icon.
  41.      B. Read Me from the CD.
  42.      C. DirectX - Setup program for DirectX drivers.
  43.      D. Uninstall - Space Explorer.
  44.  
  45.  4. The program needs DirectX version 8 (7 for Win95).
  46.     If a correct version of DirectX is not installed in your computer 
  47.     click on the "DirectX" icon in the 'CET' folder.

  49.  5. Restart your Windows.

  53. Insert the program CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  54. Click on Directx icon in the CET group.

  56. Running the program
  57. ===================
  58. Double Click on the Program icon created on Windows desktop.

  60. Choose "Start", "Program", "CET", "Space Explorer".

  62. Removing the program
  63. ====================
  64. From CET folder choose the "Uninstall" icon.

  68. Technical issues:
  69. =================

  71. Media Player2
  72. --------------
  73. Media Player 2 is needed.
  74. If you don't have sound, you may run the Media Player setup from the CD.
  75. Choose "Start", "Run"
  76. In the command line type: D:\util\setup.exe
  77. (where D is your Cd-Rom drive letter).
  78. Mark the "Windows Media Player" check-box.
  79. Click "Next".
  80. Follow the instructions.

  82. For Error Message: "A required .dll file, WinInet.dll, was not found":
  83. Install Media player2.

  87. Before running the program install Directx from
  88. "CET" folder.

  90. Using Internet links within the program
  91. ---------------------------------------
  92. This program includes a large set of direct links to the Internet.
  93. In order to use the Internet connectivity you must have either 
  94. Explorer or Netscape (version 3 and above) browser installed on 
  95. your system.

  97. When trying to open an Internet link from the program make 
  98. sure that you are already connected to your Internet Service Provider.
  99. You can, of course, run the program without being 
  100. connected to the Web. 
  101.  
  102. Notice that if an Internet link from the program is unavailable it 
  103. is NOT due to any malfunction of the software but rather the 
  104. specific server is currently "dead" or the link no longer exists.

  118. Some minor problems might occur while viewing graphics
  119. with Ati Xpert 8m and Voodoo 3 3000 Graphic cards.

  125. Viewing 3-D models
  126. ------------------
  127.  - Use a 3-D graphics accelerator card. 
  128.    The graphics card is the one to which your monitor's cable 
  129.    is connected, also known as "video adapter".
  130.    For viewing the 3-D models you MUST have an AGP 3-D graphics 
  131.    accelerator card with at least 4M MB of memory installed 
  132.    on your system
  133.  - 3-D quality. The appearance and performance of the 3-D models 
  134.    depends on the quality of your graphics card, on the 
  135.    processor (CPU) capabilities, and on the system memory (RAM). 
  136.    An older graphics card and a slow processor may strongly affect 
  137.    the 3-D experience, display a low quality picture with "funny 
  138.    looking art-effects,"  slow navigation capabilities, and 
  139.    a poor frame-rate. To fully experience 3-D we suggest that you use 
  140.    at the least a 350MHz processor, 64 MB of RAM 
  141.    and a reasonable 3-D graphics card with 8MB of memory or 
  142.    more (such as Matrox G-200 or Riva-TNT cards). 
  143.    Use 800X600 screen resolution and 16-bits color 
  144.    mode (65536 colors).
  145.  - Pentium-3 "awareness". This product is "Pentium-3 aware" which 
  146.    means that you will experience better 3-D performance when 
  147.    running it on a Pentium-3 processor based PC.
  148.  - Screen color-depth mode. Most 3-D graphics cards do not support 
  149.    hardware acceleration in 24-bits color mode (also known as 
  150.    "million of colors" mode). 
  151.    If you experience slow frame-rate try to change your color 
  152.    mode to 16-bits (65536 colors) or to 32-bits. 
  153.    This can be done in you display settings window activated 
  154.    from your settings\control-panel folder.
  155.  - Screen resolution. This product is tuned to work under 
  156.    800X600 screen resolution. However, 640X480 and 1024X768 screen 
  157.    resolutions are also supported. 
  158.    If you have only 4MB of memory on your graphics card you 
  159.    may prefer 640X480 screen resolution which may deliver higher 
  160.    frame-rate and smoother 3-D sensation.
  161.  - ATI cards. Some of ATI's graphics cards (such as ATI Rage-II of 
  162.    ATI 128) do not fully support 16-bits color mode. 
  163.    If you experience strange colors you may prefer a 32-bits color 
  164.    mode for these cards.
  165.  - Voodoo's 3-D cards. This program uses a mixture of 2-D and 3-D windows. 
  166.    Since some of Voodoo's 3-D cards support only 
  167.    full-screen, non-window mode, these cards are NOT capable of 
  168.    accelerating this software.
  169.  - Use updated drivers. 3-D is an evolving technology. 
  170.    Most companies that manufacture graphics cards with 3-D support 
  171.    continue to develop the "driver" (the software that runs the card) 
  172.    AFTER the product is already on the market. 
  173.    This is way many users have and old, incomplete drivers 
  174.    with many bugs. These bugs may cause visual mess on the 
  175.    screen while running the software. 
  176.    To solve such problems we recommend that you download the most 
  177.    updated drivers from the manufacturer's Internet site 
  178.    (see the URL above), and install it. 
  179.  
  180. SYSTEM.INI changes during setup:

  230. Word processor recommendation
  231. =============================
  232. The activities documents, which are a part of this title,
  233. are optimized for viewing and editing using Microsoft Word.
  234. However, most of them can be reasonably viewed using WordPad,
  235. which is a standard Windows tool.
  236. You may experience some difficulties viewing the activities
  237. documents, which contain tables and pictures, when using WordPad.

  240. Working with other applications
  241. ===============================
  242. While working with this program, avoid minimizing or moving
  243. to another applications using Alt+Tab.
  244. The upper Menu can be restored by right-mouse-clicking the 
  245. program icon on the Task-Bar and clicking "Restore".

  247.  
  248. Lack of resources
  249. =================
  250. A blue frame will appear around the main screen, in case
  251. of resources shortage
  252.  
  253.  
  254. DOS programs
  255. ============
  256. You may experience problems when trying to run this title 
  257. and other DOS programs simultaneously.
  258. The problem occurs when you move directly from the title to
  259. a full screen DOS program. 
  260. Solution: if you must use a DOS program simultaneously
  261. with the title, try to view it in a Window mode.
  262.  
  263. PowerSaver utility
  264. ==================
  265. This product does not support PowerSave 1.0 utility. 
  266. If PowerSave shuts down the system while a 3-D world 
  267. is active it may be impossible to invoke the system and 
  268. you will have to reboot it.
  269. Solution: Turn off PowerSave while running this product or 
  270. avoid leaving a 3-D World running without touching the mouse or 
  271. keyboard (so PowerSave will not be activated).
